Features fixes for the titular rogue racing game
Windows 8 / Windows 7 / Windows Vista / Windows XP
This patch updates the PC version of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, contributing a number of fixes and making various other improvements. GTA 4 puts gamers into the shoes of Nico Bellic, a recent immigrant to the New York-inspired Liberty City. Getting his bearings in a new country, Nico is thrust into a criminal underworld inhabited by many of his fellow countrymen. Through his loyalty and skills, he proves his merits to successively higher-placed gangsters, moving from small-time crime to bigger heists and escapades.
The PC release of Grand Theft Auto IV made a stir upon release for a couple of reasons. One of these was that the in-game option sliders allowed for vast draw distances and other increases in detail compared to earlier console versions. These improvements came with a price, however, as the game was seen as being very performance-hungry, especially with regard to CPU usage.
Rockstar steadily improved the situation, however, and this patch provides further relief to gamers' computers, reducing the CPU load considerably. Graphics cards will find their duties lightened a little, too, and both of these changes should see the game running more smoothly and at higher frame-rates on many computers.
Otherwise, the patch mostly takes on a small list of remaining issues, many of them cosmetic in nature. For example, foliage in the city can at times disappear from view, leaving trees looking bare when they were meant to be covered in leaves, and this infrequent problem has been addressed. Some similarly small clippings and other issues have been taken care of, too, leaving an already fairly polished game in excellent shape after the application of the patch.
